LAND USE CODE CHANGES EFFECTING OUR VALLEY

There are a handful of properties in the valley (not in the city of Woodinville) that have been converted from rental houses to wine tasting rooms. Although many of these were converted years ago, and with King County's approval, recently, some have questioned whether they comply with current land use codes and regulations.

This has spurred the King County Executives Office to rewrite and update the home business/land use code to accommodate the growing wine and related businesses that have become a big part of our local economy and lifestyle.

We believe these conversions/uses, with certain restrictions, are positive for the Sammamish Valley and should be allowed. We expect to see some proposed changes to the land use code from the executive office shortly and when we have it, we will post it on this website. We will also give our opinion on whether we believe the language proposed is positive for our valley, strikes the right balance between protecting the environment and farmland, and meets the needs of our businesses and landowners.
